Flights of stairs, ever stranger and wilder, will lead one to the various areas set up by the master of the house. The first staircase leads to the first terrace.
This terrace opens on to a splendid amphitheater.
The Water Organ.
It was a hydraulic marvel. One could have an instrumental group perform,
and the organ player adjusted the water play, even the form and the height of
the water spouts in relation to the music being played.
After this first wonder, another flight of stairs.
You continue going further and further up.
On one of the steps of this staircase, there was a surprise which greatly amused all the ladies of the time. When a dignified lady passed by, one could push a small lever, and water squirted up under her skirt. It seems that this was very funny.
You continue up this staircase and reach terraces bordered by urns and vases, which bear either laughing, grimacing or sarcastic faces. You then feel that you are in a savage world in which anything could happen.
