Johannes Vermeer, Delft 1632 - Delft 1675

This painting is practically no longer a Vermeer, having been cleaned and restored so many times over the past centuries. The woman's simple face was completely redone.
This painting is, however, an important turning point in Vermeer's work. The two fundamental masses of the white tablecloth and the red dress foreshadow the truly mature
